CRANK's Utterly Sacrosanct Submission Guidelines

GENERALLY: We're looking for strong politics that acknowledges and includes complexity. We like all genres and work that blurs fiction and non. We are also hoping to find out about things we don't already know. Humour is a primary (if fratboyish) CRANKy tact... Of course what matters most is that contributors write about, toward, for their own particular obsessions.

SHOTGUN REVIEWS are a good place to start. That way we get to know you and vice versa. Up to 250 words of a book and/or just about anything else (no movies or plays, we're too slow). Your Uncle. A store. A city. A transit system. A bra. A brand. A cereal box. Whatever. Generally speaking, tone should be casual. It ain't the New York Review. Otherwise, we'll take fiction, essays, both personal and political (no advocacy writing please - complexity matters), memoir, profiles, satire, rants and opinion pieces (keeping in mind that at best we're a quarterly) as well as excerpts, bits, fragments, etc. We particularly want writing that is about/from somewhere else, to balance our East Van predilictions.

ART/PHOTOS Always welcome but must work in b/w. Also: sending visuals with writing helps us out a lot. Contact Richard: santo@crankmagazine.com

TO PROCEED Email is best for submissions, crankmagazine@yahoo.ca. #3 - 1163 Commercial Dr., Vancouver, B.C. V5L 3X3.If you want to write something specific for the mag, let us know and we'll get back to you right away about whether or not it sounds like it'll fit. For other submissions, we ask you to please be patient with us. We're making very little money and it's a nightmare amount of work (and we're idiots).
